The Santos Tour Down Under 2019 itinerary takes in the best cycling routes of Adelaide, combined with the best opportunities to view the race at key locations and stages.

Our 2019 package includes 8 nights in the heart of Adelaide – giving great access to the best rides, restaurants, cafes and the City of Adelaide Tour Village.

We believe a cycling holiday is just that – a combination of great bike rides with a relaxed holiday atmosphere.

Day One. Sunday 13th January. Our pick up point is Adelaide airport at midday on 13th January.  This gives plenty of time to unpack your bike and bags and relax before we head to the evening entertainment – the Peoples Choice Classic street race.  This is a short walk from the hotel, through Rundle Mall and we’re onto the race circuit.

Day Two. Monday 14th January. We will use the second day to explore some of the key locations around Adelaide, including the climb to Mt Lofty.  This climb takes us to the highest point in the Adelaide Hills, giving an immediate appreciation for the lay of the land and birds-eye overview of the Adelaide area.

Day Three. Tuesday 15th January. With the first stage proper of the 2019 Santos Tour Down Under starting just 2km from our hotel, we will take the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere and excitement of the start of a World Tour race.  Our ride will include a morning loop in the hills, followed by an afternoon beachfront ride and watching the stage finish at Port Adelaide.

Day Four. Wednesday 16th January. Today we ride over the first part of Stage Two before the race starts.  We’ll make our way to the exciting point of the stage – the infamous Checker Hill.  With gradients between 14 – 20%, this will be a key point in the race for the climbers to put the sprinters in the hurt box up this short climb.

Day Five. Thursday 17th January. We will take a breather from the hectic atmosphere of Santos Tour Down Under watching and head off for a fantastic ride with a special lunch stop.  This will be a relaxed day on the bikes, with the only deadline for the day being our lunch stop.

Day Six. Friday 18th January. With Stage 4 starting just a few kilometres from the hotel, you will have another opportunity to say G’Day to your favourite pro riders before they head off in search of the glory result of the day. After the start we’ll make our way through the Adelaide Hills to the key point of todays stage – Corkscrew Hill. We’ll tackle this wee beauty before the riders charge on through.  Being just 6km from the stage finish, this will be an area where the race fireworks will be set alight.

Day Seven. Saturday 19th January.  Today is Challenge Tour day, which is one of the highlights of the week.  It’s your chance to ride the full Santos Tour Down Under Stage 5, just hours before the pro peloton blasts through the route. At 149.5km and with 1778m climbing this really is a challenge, with the route taking us from Glenelg, down the coast and across to Victor Harbor, then up to the stage finish at Strathalbyn.  We’ll then watch the pro race finish before transferring back to our hotel.  Optional Legends’ Night Dinner (AUS$250pp)

Day Eight. Sunday 20th January.  This is the grand finale day of the Santos Tour Down Under, with the final stage finishing atop Willunga Hill for the first time.  We’ll ride out to Willinga and take up a great vantage spot to see the GC unfold right before us.  We will then join the thousands of others making our way back to Adelaide via the great network of cycle paths.

Day Nine. Monday 21st January.  Our last day of the Tour has us finishing with a transfer to the airport at 9:00am. It is advisable to book a return flight after midday.

Each Kiwi Style Bike Tour has a full ride itinerary, which includes shorter ride options where practicable.  We provide an atmosphere where no ride is compulsory and can advise which rides to shorten to ensure you enjoy all of the features of this tour.  We have the experience and knowledge of the areas to make changes and adjustments to ensure the best cycling experience.  We are in the Australian summer and weather can have a major impact on ride options.  We aim to accommodate the needs and abilities of all riders in each group and will recommend changes accordingly.
